'Tomato' is the eighth print in my 2019 Print Project.
It is a 3 colour linocut print depicting a Tomato seed packet illustration.

The print is a limited edition of 20.
Each print has been editioned and signed.

There is nothing better than the smell and taste of home grown tomatoes, don't you think? I had to include them in my 2019 print project and it appears to be an appropriate month to do so... did you know, every year in August, in Bunol, Spain, they hold the food festival - La Tomatina, where they have a huge tomato-fuelled food fight! It has been a strong tradition from the 1940's but no one is completely sure of its origin, there are many theories. Today it is an annual event that attracts visitors from around the world.
Tomatoes generally make me think of Mediterranean cooking, but specifically Italian, which in turn lead me to look at old Italian graphics for inspiration. I took influence from these, wanting to create a simple and fresh looking image.
Each print is hand burnished using a wooden spoon. I use oil based inks for their longevity and vibrant colour. I have printed onto Japanese paper.
